Alam Ara (1931), First Indian Sound Film

India's first talkie film Alam Ara (Light of the Universe) was a landmark achievement in the history of films. Alam Ara was released at the Majestic Cinema in Mumbai in 1931 and this was the end of the silent movies era.

The movie was produced by Imperial Movietone and directed by Ardeshir Marwan Irani. The main cast of the film included Prithiviraj Kapoor, Zubeida Begum Dhanrajgir, the first talkie actress in India, LV Prasad, Jagadish Sethi and Wazir Mohammed Khan.
