The Supreme Court has recently ordered a a panel of doctors to examine a woman who has been in a vegetative state for almost 40 years. Since the assault, she has been in a vegetative state, being fed mashed food. On 24th January 2011, the Supreme Court of India responded to the plea for Euthanasia filed by Aruna's friend journalist Pinki Virani in favor of euthanasia or 'Mercy death', by setting up a medical panel to examine her.
