The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was duly passed on September 11th, 1958 by the Indian Parliament. This Act conferred special powers on the armed forces to act upon in areas termed as 'disturbed areas' in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland.
