Devotion and piety turned into bloodbath as several devotees visiting the temple town of Haridwar in Uttarakhand were caught in a stampede that killed about 20 devotees. As usual large numbers of devotees had gathered at the Banks of the Ganges. While climbing steps leading to the crossover bridge, a lady devotee slipped and fell back causing much commotion.
