The US has rallied to hit hard against the 'damage' done to its credit rating by S & P. Questions were raised about S & P's basic competence and the criteria used for evaluation. David Beers, who runs the S&P unit that rates government debt acknowledged the damage that was done to the U.S. reputation because of the controversy over the debt ceiling.
